Have you ever told yourself: “From tomorrow, I am going to do [fill in the blank]” (e.g. get healthy, lose weight, start an exercise routine, stop drinking, eat less junk etc.), only to find yourself slipping into the same bad habits tomorrow, and the next day and the next?
Ever been discouraged and wonder why you just can’t seem to make the change, even though, in theory, you know what to do?!
If this is you, take heart, we have all been there! Yes, even me. But I’m getting better at progress, so that’s why I want to share my 4 top tips to help you progress towards any goal that you’ve set yourself.
1. Visualise yourself at the end goal. Visualise yourself as healthy, at your ideal weight, not addicted to any kind of behaviour, food or substance, looking vibrant, feeling more energetic. Hold that thought an image in your mind whenever you are tempted to go back.
2. Grieve the loss. Making lifestyle changes is hard! Lots of people want to do this all the time, but only a few succeed! That’s why many people ask for support, to spur you on, direct you, keep you accountable and uplift you when you fall. Yes, change means you will have to lose out on certain things, like eating and drinking whatever you want whenever you want.
3. It’s a process. For the majority of us, big changes don’t happen in a single day. We’re not robots. Working on adding one good habit and eliminating one bad one in its place will add up to massive changes overtimes. This is how I help people transform their lifestyles into healthier, happier and more energetic ones.
4. Plan to change. Failure to plan is planning to fail! Redesigning your environment for success makes change easier. Depending on your goal, this might mean you need to write weekly shopping lists and think about what you are going to eat each day. you need to plan this because, if you don’t, you will likely get caught out and grab whatever you can find when the munchies overtake you.
What is keeping you from changing? I bet it’s not lack of information, is it?
